Steve Perrin:
Greeting from Beijing! We've had two long flights and we're
tired but excited to jump into exploring this wonderful
country. Tomorrow, we’re heading the see the Great
Wall and also going to stop into a school here in Beijing
to try our our ambassadorial skills. Since the big event
of the last two days was the flight into China, we though
we'd let one of our rookie fliers tell her story :
Greetings from the other side of the globe!
Wow, what can I say? This was both the most interesting,
and the most tiring day of my life. But before I go on any
further I better say hi to my Mom and the rest of my family,
or when I get back there will be no home for me to go to
(just kidding by the way, I love you Mom!!!!)
It actually hasn’t sunk in that I’m actually
in China, which goes the same for practically everyone on
this trip. The plane ride in itself was an experience for
me, and I’m not talking about the one to China. I’m
talking about the one to Chicago! It was my first flight,
and I have to say that I was scared out of my mind! I was
really fortunate in having Alyssa as the passenger seated
next to me. She coaxed me through it, and in retrospect
it wasn’t that bad. The challenging thing was to stay
alert in case of an emergency. All I have to say on that
matter s that I’m lucky I wasn’t sitting next
to any exits. If I were a lot of people would be floating
off like Leonardo Dicaprio in Titanic.
The thing that was really an issue on the 13 hour flight
(I emphasize thirteen with great punctuation on the “Thir”
and “teen”), was that before takeoff they said
that they would be showing Harry Potter, and they never
did. There was more than one broken heart on that plane.
What was really amazing was how when at the opportune moment
you could go to the back of the plane and see the artic
tundra, with all the glaciers and everything. To bring this
to a close it was a long and challenging flight in many
ways.. It is hard and strenuous stuff. Especially sitting
next to a stranger from Timbuktu, and not falling asleep
on them and having a very, very awkward moment.
All your youngins’ say good night,
Reporting from her hotel room in Beijing, this is Stacy
Walsh signing off!
P.S.-staying in the same clothes for about two days and
not brushing your teeth is not fun.
