First Thoughts in Beijing, collected by George

George, writer of the day

"After traveling for so long on the plane my first thought was sleep, but how can you sleep when so many different amazing things are happening. I can’t wait to explore China!”—George

“Beijing isn’t what I was expecting. It is more spread out and spacious than what I thought it would be. I am so excited to see the rest of the city.”—Harrison

“Many of us have been more or less aware of our surroundings for the past 38 hours and our needs were clearly visible at dinner when conversation was thin and discontinuous. Although it is an overcast day, the Beijing was beautiful.” --Jessie

“What I noticed first when I stepped off the plane was the difference in the air. The smells were different, not necessarily bad, but the air felt heavier. It was warm and stuffy from the humidity.” –Stephanie

“The most amazing part of China I have taken part in so far is realizing how important it is to think about how I conduct all my daily activities to adjust to the new surroundings. This includes thinking about what I am drinking and how I’m eating my meal.”—Matt

“China is twelve hours ahead of us, so while we are getting ready to meet, everyone back home is getting ready for bed. Some of us have been awake now for thirty hours, so we’re all very tired.”—Sarah

“Today was a crazy first day. It’s only 7:30 p.m. and we’re getting ready for bed now. I’ve never been happier to go to sleep this early in my life. We want to be rested for our big day exploring Beijing tomorrow.”—Maygan

“Today was crazy and hectic. I have yet to realize that I'm finally in China. I’m so excited for this adventure and look forward to going to going to sleep so I can have an awesome day tomorrow. “ --Abigail

“Waking up at 3:30 a.m. to catch the plane wasn’t very fun, but the benefits were rewarding…We’re in China!”—Charlie
