TRIP DAILY DIARY: ASIAN-AMERICAN CULTURAL EXCHANGE
04/29/09

When you look back on your trip to China, what is one thing you learned, discovered, or about which you had an insight?

“The answer to every question is ‘between seven minutes and seven hours’, but it’s okay… we’ve learned to embrace it.” -Maygan

“When I first heard of bargaining, I wasn’t sure if I would like it; it’s very different from anything we have in the states. Now that I’m here in China, I can hardly imagine a world without something so exciting, puzzling, and fun. Many times today, the saleswomen and I would laugh when she called my low and reasonable price a joke.” -Jessie

“The Great Wall was so unbelievably rewarding. Hiking up so many stairs was more than tiring, but the view once at the top and the feeling of achievement I had was astonishing. What I’ve learned here is to embrace it and all will be fine.” -Abigail

“In China there has been so much new food that I have been able to try. I was hesitant about trying most things, but pleasantly surprised by all of them.” -Harrison

“China has introduced me to many rules that will stay with me and always be held true. Most importantly: go with the flow and let things develop before jumping to conclusions and it will almost always work out.” -Matt

“I don’t have just one favorite thing so I will mention two of the many fun and exciting times I have had on this trip. I really enjoyed our homestay because I got a really good feel for how a family lives in a completely different country. My other favorite time was when we went to the Pearl Market. I got so involved with bargaining that if I were to watch the action, it would make a very humorous short play. I really hope I can come to China in the future.” -Charlie

“What was my favorite thing to see in China? ‘What wasn’t?’ is what I’d really say. There were so many different things which were amazing and each had a sentimental value. I think my favorite part of this trip would have to be the Great Wall. I had so much fun that day. The hike was strenuous, but making it to the highest peak gave me an epiphany about traveling.” -George

“At first I was nervous about the school visits, but they turned out to be my favorite part of the trip. Everyone loved us and I got so much attention. I really enjoyed it.” -Stephanie
