Green Lake Park
by Katlyn Taylor

After meeting our Chinese hosts we got the chance to walk to Green Lake park. The walk itself was special because we were able to ask questions and interact with the Chinese students.

The park was beautiful, full of festivities. When we first arrived we could tell that the park was a favorite spot for the Chinese people, with the picturesque views and distinctive color, the park will remain in our minds for a long time. Not only were the views beautiful, but the activities going on there were as memorable. Everywhere we turned we could see people relaxing, exercising or enjoying themselves in other ways. There were people sitting on benches, dancing, and playing musical instruments. We students participated in some ballroom dancing even though we didn't know the steps.

The morning progressed with impromptu musical performances by students from both schools in a quiet corner of the covered arbor way. We were watched by many families and passerby and everyone seemed to enjoy our musical interaction. We sang American songs, the Chinese students sang Chinese songs, and three of the Chinese students even sang a popular American ballad. It was fun for all.

After the walk through the park we went to lunch where we got another opportunity to learn about life in China. The time spent in the park was worth it because it was not a planned activity but spontaneous, thus gave us more freedom to really get to know our new friends.
