The
Muslim mosque in Xi'an is one of the oldest in China. The
site is over 2000 years old although the buildings have
been destroyed and replaced many times, thus indicate a
more recent style of architecture (about 400-600 years old).
In the area of the mosque are market streets where one finds
vendors of all kinds. The street life is bustling day and
night and we found all kinds of treasures, including prom
dresses made to order (on the Drum
Tower page).

Turquoise enamel roof ornaments are typically
Chinese, making the mosque so unique.
A stone gate is part of the inner courtyard of the mosque.
Above, late afternoon sun shines on this multi-layered
wooden gate in the mosque. To the left old carved
doors remind us how old the mosque is.
A variety of roof shapes makes the mosque even
more pleasant to the eye.
