American art is very different than Chinese
art. It is different within itself and different than the Chinese. American
artists have very defined styles, and Chinese artists all have very similar
styles. Here are three examples: |
|
| Georgia O'Keeffe was
most famous for her flowers. She would make them very detailed and up
close. She also did animal skulls and desert landscapes, so she found
her inspiration in nature. Her paintings are very abstract with vibrant
colors and smooth forms. |

Jackson Pollock began
the abstract expressionism movement. He is known for placing his canvases
on the floor instead of on the wall. He used very large canvases and poured
paint on them. He painted what he felt, not what he saw. |

Andy Warhol began the
pop art movement. He would find icons around him like Marilyn Monroe for
example, and change them. He would make them into his art. He also took
a trip to China and did a piece on Mao because he found him to be an icon
in China. |
