Maple Sugaring

Jan and I did a presentation on maple sugaring. For our artifacts we will be bringing to China a sap bucket, a spout, a block of maple candy to share as well as sap and maple syrup. Not only will we have those artifacts to share but we will also have a prosess map, pictures of maple sugaring to pass out and leave with the students, and during our presentation we will have a slide show of pictures being displayed behind us, which we will explain.

Maple sugaring is very popular. Not only is it popular in Vermont but also in many sates around the U.S. New England States and specifically Vermont are famous for maple syrup and maple candy. We use the syrup for our breakfasts. The process is long but it is all worth the final result.

First you need to drill a hole in the maple trees when the weather is right. Perfect weather is warm days and cold nights. Next you place a spout in that hole and hang a bucket from the spout. The bucket collects the sap that comes from the tree, which you will later collect and bring back to the sugar house where you will boil it and then you get maple syrup.
