American Football
The legend of American Football
starts at Yale University in the late 1800s. It is a cross between Rugby and
Soccer but with many different rules. The main object of the game is to get
the football from one end of the field to the other. Scoring happend when
a player crosses the goal line with the ball.
Football plays into a large part of American culture because it has rapidly
become a part of American's past time, just like baseball.
Every year all 31 teams in the National Football League compete to be the
best. The last of these games is called the Superbowl. The Superbowl is one
of the most watched sporting events in America. During the Superbowl, 30 seconds
of airtime for promotional commercials costs about $28,000,000. That is 231,747,600
Yuan.
Kids in America can start playing football in the fourth grade in private
programs. Then when they get to the 7th grade many schools offer football
as a school sport. Many highschools across the U.S.A offer football as well.
A select few highschool players make it to the College League, which is very
hard to get into. And then after that only one in 10,000 make it to the professional
level.
One of the reasons that football players, and professional sports players
in general, are idolised is because of the extreme amount of talent needed
to make it.
