TRIP DAILY DIARY: ASIAN-AMERICAN CULTURAL EXCHANGE

04/21/04-WEDNESDAY - FLIGHT TO KUNMING AND SETTLING IN

Got to the airport on time but found out that all the chaperones and two students had been mistakenly booked and a later flight. Some fast manuevering by Jing, our Beijing guide, and a nerve wracking hour of sitting around waiting to see what he could arrange and we all ended up on the noon flight as planned.

Beijing airport is very big and very crowded but as you can see we managed to make ourselves comfortable!

We arrived in Kunming to find beautiful weather after seeing in the weather reports that it had rained there most of the last three weeks! High puffy cumulous clouds and temperatures in the low 70's! Who could ask for better?

Our hotel is part of the Yunnan Normal University holdings. They have six campuses, three hotels, and untold other connections. We're situated in the middle of the university section of town.

The hotel is 9 stories and we're on the 8th floor. The view out the window every morning shows the general hardscape of the city in our area. Mixed in with these tall buildings and super highways are little stall stores, street peddlers, and street life unique to China.
