TRIP DAILY DIARY: ASIAN-AMERICAN CULTURAL EXCHANGE

04/22/04-THURSDAY - VISIT TO YUNNAN NORMAL UNIVERSITY EXPERIMENTAL MIDDLE SCHOOL PG2

Mary thanks the school for having us and communicates our delight to be their guests

This view of Morning Exercises is taken from the balcony where Mary gave her speech. A loud speaker instructs the students in callisthenics with music to accompany. They are well practiced!

In the Chinese class the students demonstrated and then asked their American guests to try it out. Asa is writing the character for man.

These students presented ancient art on a scroll. The children spoke their presentations in both English and Chinese!

The instrument being played by this lovely young woman on the left is called an Erhu. Even though it is only two strings with a small drum-like sound box she made it sound beautiful. Hillary was brave enough to give it a try and found out just how hard this instrument is to play!

Fei is dressed in the costume of the Suni people.
The Bai people wear the costume that Leah is modeling. She, Fei and Taylor volunteered to model the minority culture costumes while the students told about them and then taught them dance steps.

Taylor is dressed in the Tibet "minority" costume.

Taylor and Fei learning dance steps.

After a demonstration, Joey tries the Chinese piano.
