TRIP DAILY DIARY: ASIAN-AMERICAN CULTURAL EXCHANGE

04/23/04-FRIDAY - THE STONE FOREST - about an hour from Kunming

Sunni father and son. The Sunni minority people inhabit this natural wonder area. There are 26 minority groups in China and 12 in the Kunming area.

Stone stairs are carved into the limestone stalagmites. There were so many tourists on the day we were there we broke up into "pods", our groups of three students and one chaperone, to travel in smaller groups.

Joey, Leah and Asa, the most awesome "pod", featured here in a valley in the Stone Forest.

Summer, our intrepid guide and translator (and a Yunnan Normal University student) and Sarah, "holding up" and serious section of rock.

Fei spiraling into the depths of the "forest".

Lisa at the top.

Who are these pod people?
