TRIP DAILY DIARY: ASIAN-AMERICAN CULTURAL EXCHANGE

04/26/04 - MONDAY - Flower market in the morning, lunch with the school kids, afternoon in Western Hills, and banquet in the evening

When we arrived at the school the students had gifts for their American friends. Here Taylor is learning Chinese chess with his friends

Teachers and students write inspirational slogans and encouragement on these outside boards to encourage achievement.

We walked from the school to a nearby restaurant. Mary, the most particular of street crossers ("pod people, POD") finds herself trapped in the middle of four lanes of traffic with student teacher, Kate, on the way to the restaurant.

We all fit in one private room of the restaurant. Here L-R: Alice, Lisa, and Kate. Alice and Kate are student teachers.

This lunch was our last chance to talk with our school friends and Joey, Fei and Taylor make the best of the time they have left.

Bridget and Sarah visit with their friends while they wait for lunch.

Mary and her friend.

We filled four tables and had a great lunch,
although we wished for more time!

In honor of our dear friend and guide Tienming, Hillary and Erin sang the theme song from Titanic and dedicated it to him. He sang along! We left our school friends after our one and a half hour lunch and traveled onward to the Western Hills.

Summer (with Tienming in the background) gives the traditional Chinese photo gesture.
